Not only this, American Airlines has entered into a codeshare agreement with IndiGo owing to which it will now put its code on 29 of IndiGo’s domestic routes in India. This will be done to increase the airline’s connectivity in India.

Before this, American Airlines had last flown to India in 2012 after which it terminated its flights from Chicago to Delhi and back that was launched in 2007.
Giving a boost to the USA-India connectivity, Tom Lattig (AA’s MD) mentioned, “There is tremendous demand for travel between India and the US, thanks to the large diaspora and growing business ties. The pandemic has led to a preference among people to travel nonstop instead of going one-stop.”
While there are 16 non-stop flights operating between USA and India by different airlines, American Airlines will launch another non-stop route in March 2022 from Seattle to Bengaluru and back. This route (announced as part of the carrier’s tie-up with Alaska Airlines) was supposed to start in January 2022 but has now been deferred by 2 months, keeping the situation in mind.
Having announced the opening of two non-stop routes between USA and India, American Airlines MD in an official statement mentioned, “There is huge potential for expansion in India. Mumbai is one place we are looking at closely. We will see how these two routes that we have announced do and then decide.”
As of now, there are 9 flights being operated by Air India, 5 by United Airlines, and 1 by Delta.
