Everything You Need To Know About IndiGo Partnering With Air France-KLM

IndiGo (India’s largest airline in terms of market share and fleet size) has partnered with Air France-KLM, forming a wide aviation network worldwide. While this codeshare agreement was signed on 23 December 2021, the airline has started operating flights from today. Under the codeshare agreement, each airline will be able to sell seats of the other airline.

Benefits Of Codeshare Agreement B/w IndiGo & Air France-KLM

• The European carrier – Air France-KLM – will get access to 25 of IndiGo’s domestic destinations apart from the 4 Indian destinations it has previously been catering to – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, & Bangalore. 
• IndiGo will be able to sell tickets to AF-KLM’s network of 250 destinations across the world, including 120 in Europe alone and 50 in North and South America. 
• With increased global partnerships, IndiGo will return to the international market post-pandemic with a wider footstep.

**This is the 2nd codeshare agreement that Indigo signed. The 1st was with American Airlines which covers 29 destinations.

About Indigo Signing The Agreement | Background

Before the pandemic hit, IndiGo had huge plans of international expansion that would’ve taken it deeper into East Asia and the Middle East. It was supposed to sign codeshare agreements with Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways – both being the hubs in the aforementioned regions. However, COVID happened to put things to a standstill. 

But now, with travel restrictions easing for Indians going to USA or Europe (or coming back to India), IndiGo’s collaboration with Air France-KLM will prove fruitful. 

Insight – Just after the IndiGo – Air France-KLM arrangement news started doing the rounds (back in December), IndiGo’s shares ended 2.82% higher compared to its previous closing.

About Air France-KLM Signing The Agreement 

Air France-KLM will reap umpteen benefits from this partnership with IndiGo too. Since this European carrier is in direct competition with Lufthansa and British Airways, this partnership will help the airline’s connectivity to secondary cities in India. As a result, Air France-KLM will be able to attract more passengers, thereby growing its presence. 

Another Added Benefit – The pandemic restrictions have only been allowing Lufthansa to operate India to USA flights transiting through EU. But now, with this codeshare agreement, AF and KLM will join the league of taking passengers from India to USA.
