The operation of international passenger flights will resume by March 27, 2022, informed by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Rajya Sabha on March 14th, 2022. This announcement has been made by the minister during the Question Hour as the Upper House gathered for its second part of the budget session after the break of one month.

Jyotiraditya Scindia said: “All regular international flights will operate in 100 percent capacity by March 27 as the coronavirus situation in India has improved now.”

After a wait of two years, India is all set to operate all international passengers flights with full capacity as the government had passed an order of ban on all international flights for a week beginning March 23, 2020.  This ban stayed for nearly two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In spite of that, since July 2020 India had started resuming some special international flights between India and other 35 countries (approximately) under the air bubble.

Huge Relief for Airlines

This resumption of international flights will bring huge relief to the aviation, tourism, and hospitality sectors which were hit badly by the coronavirus pandemic. It means airlines will be able to operate their aircraft on longer routes which further results in optimum utilization of assets. They will also earn more revenue per seat as the airfares are higher on international routes than on domestic routes.

Previous Plan Postponed Because of Russia-Ukraine Conflicts

On March 15, the Government of India had planned to resume the operations of international passenger flights but due to the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, it has been delayed. Because importance has been given to the relief flights to bring back stranded Indians in Ukraine.
